Cycling Background:
Got a used Scwhinn Varsity when I was 17 – man that thing was fast! For about a half mile, then the engine gave out. Been trying to build it ever since. Got my first REAL bike at college in Chicago – Canondale s800 or something. Stolen a week later. I stuck with it though and got a job as a bike messenger. Eighty miles a day, six days a week – not bad. Started a collegiate team as a grad student at Southern Illinois University as my first racing experience. Hooked. Eventually made it to Cat 3. Stopped racing before moving to Fort Collins. This place inspired me to race again. Harsh reality, though: Cat 3 in the midwest = Cat 4 in Rockies. I am ten years older, too.
