Greg Scanlan phones home with some running updates to his racing the Crit and Road Race at the Rocky Mountain Omnium in Glenwood Springs during this rainy and chilly weekend.
Greg relates that at yesterday’s (6/12) SM-3 crit, the “rain and attacks never stopped!,” but he nonetheless held at the front for the entire race to finish 5th.
In reflecting on having covered every attack, Greg says that he “could have been been smarter.” But Scanlan is relatively new to the road racing scene, so while is he building experience with identifying the truly fast riders around whom to strategize his races, he apparently will leave little room for other regrets.
Looking ahead to today’s Road Race, while Greg is “satisfied with [last night's] effort,” he is hoping for some good legs to help further build his road racing resumè.
UPDATE: Greg took 8th overall in the Omnium after finishing 12th in the Road Race which was riddled with a crash.
Greg reports the Road Race was “a good power course” constructed of 3×20 mile out-and-backs, during which he “went with several attacks, none of which stuck,” to then “set up for a perfect bunch sprint riding about 5th wheel until wham! Carnage everywhere!”
Check back for Greg’s additional results following this coming weekend’s Winter Park Hill Climb (rescheduled to 6/19 from this past weekend) and Niwot Crit, to be followed by the Crested Butte Fat Tire/Wild Cat 40 on the 26th.
