Thomas Borch, Mike Hegdal, Jimi Killen, and Ric Slayden flew the Peloton-Specialized red and white among 600 racers in front of 2000 spectators on July 17th at the Vic’s Espresso Masters State Championship Crit in Longmont.
In fact, Thomas took a 2nd place podium finish in the SM 35+_3 category, while Mike came in 16th.
Unfortunately, Jimi Killen crashed, and Ric Slayden got caught up in the ensuing carnage resulting in a DNF.
Thomas says of his ride, “We raced in 104°F and full sun (read: VERY HOT DAY). I was riding in the top 1/3 until 1.25 laps to go, at which time I passed everybody (except #1 who was 1/3 lap in front of the pack), and kept the lead until the finish line.”
The 2010 course was a fast and technical 1km “L” that was designed to keep competitors and spectators alike enthralled, on their toes, and at the same time, safe. Set in the downtown environment of the Prospect NewTown neighborhood that has been sung as among the “coolest neighborhoods in the US” by national media, the event was also punctuated with community venues such as face-painting and inflatable rides for children, a beer garden for adults, and a range of vendors and exhibitors to add their local and regional flair to the atmosphere.
Congratulations to our riders for their individual achievements and strong representation of Team Peloton-Specialized!
